Growing Conditions in Native Habitat

In the wild, Jade Plants grow in arid, rocky regions with intense sunlight and infrequent rainfall. They're adapted to conserve water and thrive in well-draining soils with high exposure to light.

Care Guide

  • Light: Prefers bright, direct sunlight. Can tolerate some indirect light but thrives best in a sunny spot.
  • Ideal Room: Great for bright windowsills, offices, kitchens, or conservatories with plenty of natural light.
  • Feeding: Feed once a month during spring and summer with a cactus or succulent fertilizer.
  • Humidity: Tolerates low humidity very well. Avoid overly humid environments.
  • Ideal Temperature: Ideal between 18–24°C (65–75°F). Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C (50°F).
  • Watering: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly in winter.
  • Pet/Child Safe: Mildly toxic if ingested; may cause gastrointestinal discomfort in pets and children.
  • Soil Type: Requires well-draining cactus or succulent soil mix. Adding perlite or coarse sand improves drainage.
  • Propagation: Easily propagated from leaf or stem cuttings; allow cuttings to callous before planting.
  • Eventual Height and Spread: Can reach 1–2 metres (3–6 feet) in height and width over time indoors.
  • Growth Rate: Slow to moderate; growth increases with bright light and correct watering.
  • Pests and Treatment: Watch for mealybugs and scale. Treat with neem oil or a soft cloth dipped in insecticidal soap.
  • Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years in spring. Choose a slightly larger pot with good drainage.
  • Pruning: Prune to shape and encourage branching. Remove any leggy or damaged growth with sterilised scissors.
  • Air Purification: Known to help improve indoor air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen.
  • Folklore: Traditionally seen as a bringer of good luck and financial fortune, it's often placed near entrances or cash registers in Feng Shui practice.
